Hip-hop legend Slick Rick is back with his first full-length album in 25 years.
The visual album, Victory, dropped Friday and marks his first project since 1999’s The Art of Storytelling.
Slick Rick self-produced 95% of the album and shares executive producer credits with actor and artist Idris Elba, who also appears on the record alongside Nas and Estelle.
Now 60, the British-born rapper says his content has matured with age, but his storytelling skills still shine.
Victory was four years in the making, with visuals filmed across the U.S., UK, and Africa.
Slick Rick says the visual format was meant to save time and create a cinematic experience for fans.
He also emphasized that hip-hop should go beyond bravado — urging artists to be romantic, humorous, even political.
