A video shared on former President Trump’s social media account drew widespread criticism after it included altered images depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. The clip appeared within a longer video promoting false claims about the 2020 election. It was later removed from Trump’s feed.
The White House initially dismissed concerns, but several Republican lawmakers publicly objected to the imagery. Sen. Tim Scott called the depiction “racist,” while other GOP members, including Rep. Mike Lawler and Sen. Roger Wicker, have urged Trump to address the issue directly.
Trump said he had not been aware that the offensive segment was part of the video and stated that he condemns racism. However He has not issue an apology.
The incident adds to ongoing scrutiny of Trump’s past comments and actions involving race, which have been the subject of criticism throughout his political career.
