The BBC has apologised after a racial slur shouted by Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson was broadcast during the Bafta Film Awards. Davidson, whose involuntary tics include coprolalia, shouted the N‑word while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage. Although the ceremony aired on a delay, this moment was not edited out.
Bafta and the BBC stressed the outburst was involuntary, while Davidson said he was “deeply mortified” and left the event early. Critics, including Kemi Badenoch and several actors, said the BBC should have removed the audio and offered a stronger apology. The ceremony also drew attention for a broadcast edit after Filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr was cut for time after a “Free Palestine” remark. Bafta has since apologized to those affected and said it would learn from the incident.
