TLC’s Chilli has finally spoken up after online speculation linked her to political donations supporting Donald Trump and an instagram repost involving a conspiracy theory about Michelle Obama. The singer says both incidents were misunderstandings and asked fans for grace as she addresses the backlash.
Federal records reviewed by People showed that someone under Chilli’s legal name, Rozonda Thomas, donated nearly $900 in 2024 to WinRed, the Trump National Committee JFC, and Never Surrender Inc. Chilli explained that she believed she was contributing to causes related to human trafficking and veterans’ support, issues she says are personally meaningful because her father is a veteran and she has long advocated for children’s welfare.
She emphasized that she is “not MAGA” and does not support policies she feels cause harm.
Chilli also responded to criticism over a repost on instagram involving a conspiracy theory about Michelle Obama. She said the share was accidental, noting that she is not “very computer savvy” and only realized the mistake after receiving calls and messages from concerned friends.
She stressed that she has deep respect and admiration for Michelle Obama and would never intentionally promote harmful content.
Her team further clarified that the donations were being misrepresented and that many were automatic recurring contributions tied to causes she believed in. They reiterated that Chilli does not align with divisive political ideologies and has consistently used her platform to uplift women and promote empathy.
This controversy comes as TLC prepares for its upcoming “It’s Iconic” summer tour with Salt‑N‑Pepa and En Vogue, keeping the group in the spotlight as Chilli works to correct the narrative surrounding her online activity.
