Long before topping charts, Drake was Aubrey Graham — a teen actor on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Now, in the upcoming documentary Degrassi: Whatever It Takes, he’s opening up about how the show shaped his life.
Drake admits he never quite fit in at school, but everything changed when he landed the role of Jimmy Brooks. From shooting emotional storylines to sharing one of his very first on-screen kisses, he says the show marked the start of a wild journey.
The doc also reunites familiar faces including Shenae Grimes-Beech, Jake Epstein, Miriam McDonald, Shane Kippel, Dayo Ade, and more. Together, they revisit the show’s fearless storytelling — tackling real issues that most teen series avoided.
For Drake, looking back means more than just nostalgia. He recalls moments of doubt, peer pressure, and even struggling with how his wheelchair storyline was perceived. But ultimately, Degrassi became a launchpad — not just for his career, but for his sense of identity.
Degrassi: Whatever It Takes is both a celebration of the iconic series and a reminder of how it left its mark on an entire generation. The doc hits theatres on September 13th.
