Singer David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, has been formally charged with murder in connection with the death of 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, according to Los Angeles prosecutors. The announcement came on April 20 during a press conference held by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
Authorities say Hernandez’s remains were discovered in September 2025 inside the front trunk of a Tesla linked to the 21‑year‑old artist. The vehicle had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills, later towed, and eventually inspected after an impound lot worker reported a foul odour. Investigators found the girl’s decomposed body, which the medical examiner said had been there for an extended period.
In addition to first‑degree murder with special circumstances, D4vd faces allegations involving lewd acts with a minor and mutilation of a corpse. If convicted, the special‑circumstances charge could carry a maximum sentence of life without parole or potentially the death penalty, though prosecutors have not confirmed whether they will pursue it.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell noted that the long delay between the girl’s death and the discovery of her body complicated the investigation, with crucial evidence deteriorating and misinformation spreading publicly.
The case remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare for the next phase of legal proceedings.
